Initially, I contacted our department administrator immediately after I heard the new NP Joel Shaeve was hired for West Bend so I can get involved. I was told in an email that our department administrator will not be responsible for his orientation. A few weeks later an e mail blast was sent out to our department that Joel is starting in a week and he will be here at Froedtert orienting since he only is only credentialed with MCW.
I took the opportunity to set up his first week of orientation here at Froedtert so that there is some structure. Our administrator appointed one of our Department NP's as his contact person. The first two weeks of his orientaion have been a success so far!
I received further clarification from Julie Raaum in regards to new hires outside MCW.
I met with Dr. Fickel last week to share the background behind the APP Education Council’s Orientation Guidelines and the identification of APP New Hire Coordinators. These new hire coordinator roles are populated by APP staff who self-select because they have a vested interest in education and APP onboarding. They are clinical content experts in their areas. They know what clinical learning and support is essential for a new APP hire to be successful. They work to augment the department and division leaders and APP preceptors.
Since launched in July of this year, several coordinators have asked to clarify their role in supporting CVG new hires. I addressed this with Dr. Fickel and she fully supports the role of the new hire coordinator (in areas where they exist) in the onboarding of CVG staff. Dr. Fickel supports optimizing the orientation of all new APP staff and welcomes the role of APP new hire coordinators as partners in achieving this aim.
